FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 14, 1998

Paul Mitchell Urges Rep. Ron Paul
to Vote for Impeachment of Clinton

Austin, Texas. Paul Andrew Mitchell, Counselor at Law and
Private Attorney General, today wrote to U.S. Representative
Ron Paul, urging the Congressman to vote in favor of impeaching
President Bill Clinton -- for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Mitchell carefully distinguished a private affair, from
criminal violations of Title 18 of the United States Code.
"I do not think we should impeach a President for having
an affair with one of his girlfriends," Mitchell wrote. "However,
perjury and obstruction of justice are federal crimes, punishable
under Title 18 of the U.S. Code."
The U.S. Constitution places the President under
a solemn oath to preserve, protect and defend the
Constitution of the United States, at Article II, Section 1,
Clause 8.
Moreover, Article II, Section 3 specifically obliges that
the President "shall take care that the laws be faithfully
executed."
After Bill Clinton was sworn to tell the truth by a
federal grand jury, he had in effect placed himself under
the sanctions of two oaths: the solemn Oath of Office,
and an equally solemn oath to tell the truth to the federal
courts.
"Clinton had to have known what penalties could
result from violating either of these oaths," argued
Paul Mitchell.
"If Clinton is allowed to stay in office, after all the
evidence proves that he is guilty of these crimes, a grave
injustice will be done. Federal government leaders should not
be allowed to set such an example, at any time, at any place
in the world," Mitchell concluded.
